Why are people so cold hearted

I was scared that it would come to this. Every morning and every night Chance would pray for Tori to come home safe to her family. He would ask me to check the internet to see if Tori was home yet. Now, what do I tell him? Do I tell him that these monsters killed a sweet little girl? Do I just leave it as "they found Tori and they are bringing her home"? Where in that sense I am not lying to him. They are bringing her home to her mom and dad, just not the way ANY of us wanted. Do I tell him that she died, but not expand on what happened? Do I tell him that these people hurt her? He's tramuzied enough knowing that someone took her - now someone please tell me how to tell my 5 year old, very sensitive little boy, what happened to sweet Tori. I don't know what to do!
e-mails, comments, anything would be appricated!

Did I do the right thing?

I did something yesterday, and I am not sure if I should have. We have talked about stranger danger before. We've talked about never to go anywhere with anyone. We've talked about not going somewhere with someone he knows WITHOUT ASKING first. But you never know how much they really get. Esp. when they are so young. They are so innocent, the world is a wonderful and happy place to be, they have no care and no concerns. And to be quite honest, it's just another rule they have to follow, like cleaning up their rooms.

But for those of you do not know, there is now a 10 day old search for a missing 8 year old girl Tori Stafford, that lives just an hour from us. She was walking from school on April 8th, and they have video surveillance of her walking WILLINGLY with an unidentified female. There has been nothing since. I've been praying for her safe return since then. The thought of someone taking any of children and not know where they were terrifies me.

So, yesterday I started going through a bunch of serionos that people might use to try and concince Chance to go with them. You know, the lost puupy, I've got some candy, your mom called and told me to come and get you, you dad said it was ok that come to my house to play. Each senerio, his answer was NO. Well then I got some pictures of Tori and showed Chance a couple of them. Once I was done showing him the pictures I explained that someone took her when she was walking home from school. That no one knows where she is. The look on Chance's face made me want to cry, he had tears welling up, but didn't quite know how to express himself. He was very concerned, and he wanted to pray for her every night. He then went out in the backyard to play and as he left he said "When I am outside playing, I will keep looking for Tori. If I see her I will run to the house as quick as I can to tell you so you can help her". Then off he went. Then about 20 minutes later Chance came in the house and asked Andrew what kind of car Tori is in, because he was watching all the cars to see if he could be Tori.
When we put Chance to bed, I didn't pray with him (like I normally do - Terra was cranky and needed her bottle and bed right away). Andrew was there and Chance right away said to Andrew that I forgot to pray for Tori, so he went and did and prayed that Tori can be found and brought home to her mommy and daddy really soon.
Then when I went to bed at 10:30p he heard me and called me into his room and told me that he prayed for Tori and that God will her get home.

So now I am torn. Did I do the right thing? I created this (healthy?) fear in him, which I think he needed. However, I also took away some of innocence of the world and of people.

I sure hope she comes home SOON. I hope she comes home SAFE. And I sure hope I don't have to explain to him that people also KILL children. For I wasn't planning on taking away that much of his innocence at the age of 5!
